HDTV turning off randomly, why?
It’s a 32” Vizio, and I bought it maybe 5 months ago. The other day the power blinked at my house, but apparently only enough to reset my clocks, the tv, and computer in the living room. Well, every day since then my TV shuts itself off at least once a day.
I hope that’s not a sign that it’s about shot already. I had an SDTV for 13 years and no problems until 5 months ago. That’swhy I bought this new TV in the first place…
Here’s a little background on Vizio.
They originated as a remarketer. In other words let’s pretend that one of the big boys (Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Samsung) has a strict quality checkpoint system of say 20 touchpoints. If there’s 4 or 5 failures then they’re allowed to try and bring them up to standard. At the end if there’s 1 or 2 remaining issues they’ll sell them as REFURBISHED / NEW IN BOX.
Beyond that they will sell them to companies such as Vizio that buys in bulk, tosses a model number onto it and voila the Vizio XYZ.
A few years ago they decided to begin manufacturing their own HDTVs from scratch and to date several reviewers and word of mouth opinions have flagged them as flaky.
I agree with some of the others, get your money back from the store – even it means in-store credit only. Besides, over the past 5 months the price erosion means you can now buy a little more so you could end up with a name brand 37″.
